San Jose-Edison Academy Reviews

Students looking for a school with great academic success, programs, classmates that motivates you, teachers, etc. should come to this school. It is Excellent. Definately a 10 out of 10. It is a great school, I dont think I would achieve as much as I did these past years if I was in another school.

The only thing i can say about San Jose Edison Academy, an A+ quality school. It's better than a private school. I hope the school district negotiate and will consider to renew the contract of this school. Without this school, all the faculty staffs and students will be homeless for the coming years. I have to give them 5 stars for excellence.

We have been in this school since it opened, and we are very pleased with the results.

A tuition free school but students learned a lot. They helped the students boost their confidence and taught a level of self discipline necessary for their personal development. They are learning the value of persistence, time management and independence.

This is like a semi-private school. If your child got an 'A+' at a local public school, that will be a 'C' at San Jose Edison Academy. This school is not for everyone so if you want your child to be challenge enough this is the school to go to.They really had a lot of improvements since they moved here to a new location(Alwood st. West Covina)The office Manager is very approachable. The principal is very Professional and knows how to discipline the students.

My 2 sons are in this school. We really like it. The principle is very aggressive. The teachers work hard with the studends and nice to our parents.

It is a great school with good teachers. The SFA reading program is very helpful.

I went to this school last year as an 8th grader and I now attend international polytechnic highschool. I am acing every class there because this school has prepped me to do so well. I love this school dearly. The teachers are nice, they have great expectations, and the whole curriculum is amazing.

This school is awesome. The school has really nice teachers, great curriculum, an awesome principal, and cool extra curricular activities. They have very high expectations for their students there. Plus most of the students that go there are not that bad,(it's the best word I can think of.) This school brings advanced math classes, activities, such as assemblies and dances. Plus they not only award people for their academics, but for their good attitude, too. It beats and public or private school anyday.

This school is average. The curriculum is comparable to average public school. I had high expectations but turned out to be really disappointed.

My son graduated from san jose and my daughter will graduate in june she will attend i poly san jose prepared them both good job all instructors who do such a great job. araiza

This school is way above average, not only for a public school but also for a very new charter school. Normally schools under 20 years old don't do that well. But SJEA is certainly the exception! My daughter has gone from a below average student to a high achiever, because simply the school challenges her. This is exactly what private schools do; sometimes I have to remind myself that it's a charter school and not completely private.

All my kids get free lunch here, I like this school. My only complain is they ask parents to donate all the time.

I have two children who just started this year at San Jose. 6th grade and kinder. Both of my children were enrolled in private school, which was a wonderful experience in itself, the Christian foundation is no doubt worth the cost and efforts. However, to say the least the cost of private school was rising and we were unable to continue at this time. My daughter was accepted into Kinder and there was an opening for my 6th grader, which was great. It is certainly the next best thing to private school. I love the parent participation expectation and the amount of effort teachers put into daily schedules. The principle is a fine example of a true visionary and wonderful leadership abilities. She believes in the children and believes in the abilities of her staff. We need to have more opportunities like this Charter school in our communities.

Principal is good, some teachers are inexperienced..don't have a permanent building!

Teachers in elementary dept. are so lenient, They don't know how to discipline students. Core values awards are just for parents who are always in the classrooms helping the teachers (check the homeworks & donating their time)

The school always ask for donations, We don't even know where the money goes??!

School was not the same few years ago.A lot of things were cut off.Parents who just volunteers became clerk and teachers.

Honestly,This is a terrible school. Teachers appeared to genuinely want to help the students but the administration staff was quite insincere and without integrity(but attempting to feign the opposite). it's extremely frustrating dealing with a school that refuses to get it together for the children and parents sake, then they wonder why parents have attitudes. good luck to you all!!

This is the epitome of the decline in this country's education! Administration doesn't have a clue how to keep things in order. Behavior enforcement needs to be followed up on as it seems this school leaves children in class all day just to get their $$$$ instead of sending those children that disrupt learning frequently. Administration is a joke. Like other parents we found it was just about the budget they received.

This is a wonderful school, almost all the teahers I met are nice and shows interest in the education of each child. I have my own children in this school and they are all doing well and motivated about school. The school is great in math and reading, also doing well in middle school science. I recommend more emphasis in elementary science subjects so the students will be knowledgeable in science from the early stage of school.

Edison seems to focus more on helping students who're below or at grade level. Those students who are above grade level are left unchallenged & bored; not a good way to get kids motivated about school. perhaps teachers are holding out till these kids on the same level as their counterpart. For my child's needs, This school leaves much to be desired. Walnut school district are much better .

I know it is impossible for everyone to have the same opinion. I personally have never had a problem with Administration. I would like to point out to the parent that made the comment that only Core value awards are given to parents because they check homework, donate time, etc. I must say my children have always gotten Core Value Awards and I don't volunteer due to my work schedule. I am proud to say my children attend San Jose Edison Academy.

I was a former student at SJEA and just graduated 8th grade. I was there since kinder. The school has been wonderful to me all 9 years. They encourage you to be your best and try your hardest. The teachers are very hands on and do do whatever it takes to help a student. They will always be there for you. I could even share my personal problems comfortably. The parents are always involved and know exactly what's going in their child's education. The curriculum is way ahead of what it should be. Especially in math. In 8th grade, I already completed a semester of geometry. I'm now a year and a half ahead of what I should be as a high school freshmen. SJEA has truly prepared me for high school and has pushed me so hard for the last 9 years. I will miss SJEA very much.

My son was a student here for 2 years. I finally became so frustrated and miserable I pulled him out and put him in our local public school. I've never regretted that decision. I had expected this is be a good, strong school with a good deal of parent involvement. What I discovered was that the parents and office staff here are horrible. In the 2 yrs I was there I witnessed a fist fight between 3 sets of parents (yes mom's included) at the annual uniform sale in front of the school. On the night of my son's first open house my husband saw two male parents exchange foul insults and then blows in front of their children and many other children in the area! Foul language seemed to be a normal way of speaking for most parents in front of children. The office staff is horrible. They can't answer simple questions without sacrasm or an attitude. What it came down to is the office staff just gave the overall impression that they never seemed to care very much about the students or the parents. The principal is a weak leader and should never have been given a school this size to run. It's obviously over her head. The majority of the teaching staff is inexperienced but they work hard with the kids and the ones I knew did try to get the kids to meet or exceed expectations. However these fine teachers will probably not stay in this school. They'll put in a few years for the experience (and from what I hear the pay is pretty good) and then move on to a traditional school.

I am a current student at this school. Staff there is horrible at the front office. The teachers will treat you with respect but that can only do so much. School grounds are very dirty. Litter is everywhere. The current principal has no leadership at all and does not care about the students or parents. My overall rating for this school is a 2 out of 10.

Our son is now attending San Jose-Edison and enjoys it very much. His teacher is just the best, she is very kind and nurturing but also strict which is just what our son needed. The advantages of having a student at San Jose-Edison are overwhelming. Every student at San Jose-Edison attends music, physical education and technology classes something I have only seen in a private school. The PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) has also been wonderful. Their envolvment in the school is outstanding. My younger brother has attended Son Jose-Edison since the school has opened and has also enjoyed it very much, he has spanish class and has even been able to take home a computer. There is a madatory parent-teacher confrence 3 times a school year for all students to make sure there is a complete understanding of how your student is performing in class. Which I feel is very helpful in our son's development. The staff at San Jose has been extremely helpful and is very saftey oriented. During drop off and pick up times you can usually see on adverage 10-11 teachers including Dr. Patton the school Principal helping with trafic control to make sure that the children are safe. Overall I see San Jose-Edison as being a safe nurturing enviroment for any student.

I have two daughters that attend this shcool, my oldest was part of the first graduating class at Edison. I find the education to be challenging, the teachers are tough but fair, the principle has always worked with us on issues. Up until this year Edison had spanish as one of their subjects and that started in 1st grade, but had to stop because of the state budget cuts. Two of my duahgters came from public schools where we thought they were doing well, until we found out how far behind they really were. Edison has helped them get up to speed. My oldest daughter went to public high school after edison and we had to move her to private high school, because even after taking some honors classes she found public high school not challenging enough. My youngest who started edison in kindergarden reads at 4th year 9 month, she is in 3rd grade. Most of the people I have met that take there kids out of this school have had issues with there kids bitching that it's too hard, they have to much home work and they want to quit. This school is not for everyone it takes alot of dicipline not just from the students but from the parents, making sure their child is getting the work done. Edison has high standards! I am a product of a private education I know how much this type of education costs.

I currently attend the school and am in 6th grade. The staff here is wonderful and ready to help if I need it. My teacher is very understanding and will talk to me if I have a problem. If a student needs help, my teacher will offer to tutor them. She is fantastic. She is also my writing teacher. In her class, I learn more than I expect. I have learned far more in her class than ever before! My math mentor is willing to sit down and help if anyone needs it. In, science, my teacher helps explain what we don't understand. Finally, in history, my instructor will try to guide people in the right direction. Many parents help out in controlling traffic, and watch out for trouble. Our principal provides special activities such as ASB, dances, and book fairs. My school is the best beyond reason.

The school is excellent. The parent at the bottom who is complaining about the parents fighting and arguing, how is that the schools fault? The school does not discriminate in the people they allow to register unless there is no room & they cannot be responsible for the foul attitude and mouth other people have. The children do get disciplined when they use foul language. When there are problems that arise with parents if the principle is aware of it she addresses it quickly. There is a 10% of parents that are rude and obnoxious but you are forgetting about the other 90%. The teachers & staff are excellent. My daughter is in 1st grade & she reads at a 2nd grade level. She is also learning things kids in 3rd grade are learning & I know this because her Nana teaches 3rd at another school.

I love SJEA! The teachers try to help us the best they can, and they do! They teach us not like they would put a book in you face and tell you to read it, no. They always try to connect it to real-life situations. Also, they have many wonderful clubs. Besides, SJEA gotten 4 gold stars for being on the top 10 best schools in America for the last 4 years! -Marina, 7th grade

Awsome, Teachers at San Jose Edison. I could'nt have been happier with all the faculties. The Noon Aides are terrific with the responsibility of watching over all of our children. Thanks to all.

Great School with very small classes.

Great school, good teachers and school grounds are very modern. This school according to the API growth is the ranked #1 in West Covina and I believe it's #1 in the San Gabriel Valley. But like all good schools parent involvement is paramount to not only the success of your child but of the school as well. You need to really think twice before you decide to put your child on the list because it can be challenging for your child and the parent as well, there is atleast 3 hours plus of homework every night including week-ends. This school starts early and ends it's school year late. My girls are doing very well in High School, I still have one child here she started in Kinder and reads above grade level. If your looking for a solid and challenging education with a private school curriculum then this is your school

There is a great deal of rhetoric about all the programs offered, but they are really just on paper. The teaching staff is not very experienced.

San Jose Edision is an overall good school. My daughter is in the 5th grade and she has been attending since Kinder. However, I am disappointed that Spanish was removed. I believe its very important for children to learn different languages. Also I wish the school would take action to a better healty breakfast and lunch program.

I had 2 children attend Edison. At first, there were many perks for the kids; extended day, Spanish class, Computers to take home etc. Every year something was cut. I then let my older son graduate and took out my younger son. Test scores are they only thing the principal is concerned about. Many teachers are great, but they only want to deal with the 'good kids'. I'm glad I got out when I did.

The level of quality in this school is excellent. I first read about the Edison Project online and put my son on the waiting list for Kindergarten the year the school opened. To my disappointment, I had to wait five years for him to finally move up the waiting list. In the meantime, like many parents seeking something better for my kids, I enrolled my son at a Catholic school. There he struggled to keep up with the curriculum, which was geared towards the top 25% of the students. When he transfered to San Jose his reading abilites were assessed and he was placed in a SFA reading group in which he was consisteningly monitored in his improvements. That is what is great about this school. It takes into account every child's indiviudal needs. My younger son, who is top of his class, has also made gains with the challenging curriculm.

This is a wonderful school.

I'm happy with my child progress at San Jose Edison, I could not find a beter school for him.

The acedemic programs are outstanding, I have three children who have all attended, one needing a little extra help and two who were above average, and the school met all their needs. The parent involvement is unbelieveable. The are also very well rounded. The school day is longer, which give the children more time to learn the extra, ex: Music, art and sports. There are specialty teachers for each subject, not just the teachers themselves teaching these subjects. Have always loved every minute my kids are there. San Jose Edison Parent

My son was one of the lucky students that won the lottery to start with San Jose Edison from 1st grade. I think it's the best public school in our town. The kids got a better education, scored better on tests and transitioned easier from one grade to the next. I'm very disappointed that the town did not approve this charter school to start a high school to finish the educational program. The principal and teachers were very accessible and easy to work with.

This School Is great there is physical education, math, english, history, science, math, after school clubs, and programs for the kids. The teachers are great and they are rated the tp school in California. They were givin the edison excellance award of 4 stars out of 4 stars award.

Great school, great curriculum, great teachers!

The very best thing I have ever done for my son! An A+ education!

This school's academic program is wonderful if your child is a high acheiver. If not, the child will struggle and they don't offer programs to help. I wish they offered more extracurricular activities for the elementary level.

Good programs and a really great group of young teachers. Some programs were cut due to budget cuts such as Spanish which had previously been offered to all elementary grades but over all is still a good system.

Good School, not for everyone. Need to have alot parent involvement, challenging school.

This school is very involved. Great teaching skills. Nothing wrong with it.

This school is, in one word 'amazing'! I just cannot say enough positive things about it. I have never seen teachers and staff members work harder. Also, I believe the schools API scores are the highest in the district and they just received the California Distinguished School Award. They have an outstanding technology program and technology staff. It is a shame that the person who first posted had so many negative things to say, but in reality, was it really about their child's education? Perhaps that is where the problem lay. The only negative item about the school is the campus, it looks old and outdated, but that will now change since the school has relocated to a newer school. The new school will now be a much better reflection of what is going on in the inside.
