The Pegasus School Reviews

The Pegasus School has been the right fit for my son. The teachers are engaging, academics are challenging, and the environment is very warm & nurturing. I have seen a huge change in my son's academic & social development--he loves school & is excited to talk about his lessons. I highly recommend this school!

This school is wonderful. The children are challenged and also have the ability to learn to love school due to its hands-on approach and creativity. I applaud this school and highly recommend it to everyone. You will not be sorry.

Think twice before you sign the contract. There is a lot of wealth at this school, and a lot of parent involvement, which can be both good and bad. Teachers are great, but academics is placed above the emotional lives of the children, even in preschool. Our child is bright/gifted and sensitive (the two often go together), but was surrounded by too much aggression. That's basically why we're leaving after two years. Good extracurricular activities, if that's what you're looking for; I wondered if some of these parents just wanted their children somewhere else besides home.

I have 2 children at The Pegasus School. We have been quite pleased with both children's experiences. The school's focus is that of academics and has been a very good fit for our children. I do believe that the admissions faculty does a wonderful job in choosing bright and gifted children for the school. Most children are also very polite and good citizens as well.

We have just started the preschool program and really like the school. The teachers gave been extremely supportive and the methods of teaching are very creative. We were looking for an environment where teaching was not forced down kids throats but where learning happens in a fun creative environment. The parents are very involved and we love that aspect as we think that the parent-teacher communication is basic to a successful school experience.

This school provides an excellent learning environment. Students are provided with ample opportunities to learn above and beyond the requirements. Different learning strategies are employed throughout the different classrooms. Overall, a great learning environment for motivated children to thrive.

My child attended Pegasus in kindergarten. Although it's supposedly a school for 'bright and gifted' kids, mostly it's a school for wealthy Newport Beach/Coast kids. It's almost all white, and the academic ability of the kids in my child's class had just as big of a spread as that of kids in public school classes later on. Teacher quality varies tremendously. Ours was good, but another kindergarten teacher who'd been there for many years was terrible. The curriculum is no better than that in a good school district, though it does have the advantage of more art, music, and science. Still, science in kindergarten was almost always videos--a real disappointment. The best thing about Pegasus is the small class size--18-20, with 2 teachers. But that's definitely not worth the money--save yours, send your kid to a good public school in K-8, and supplement with enrichment classes.

Pegasus is relatively new and is still a school finding its way. This is especially true with the middle school, which is still a work in progress. The school has improved in the last couple of years by obtaining math specialists who are able to finally help create a rigorous math curriculum. The quality of teaching, however, can be very uneven, and the administration is not always quick to take action in these cases. The curriculum at the school is limited in some cases, such as only Spanish language being offered in middle school. The school still has some growing pains before reaching greatness. However, in this area of Orange county, there are not too many choices, so Pegasus will continue to be popular.

Are we pushing academics too early? This school is expensive.

The reputation of this school is very excellent, but I am compelled to think that they push preschoolers to hard and that this school is too expensive. Difficult school to be admitted into.

A high level of parent involvement makes this school top-notch, but for gifted children who really think outside the box, it can be a bit stiffling. Serious creative thinkers may be frustrated here.

This school did not live up to my expectations. It is promoted as a school for the bright and gifted. My son attended preschool and they spent a lot of time learning primary colors. He was very bored through out the year and never once shared how his day was.

Pegasus is an excellent school, extremely academic. Teachers are nurturing, loving and highly qualified. Pegasus is a blue ribbon school with a wonderful arts and drama program. Very private setting in a residential area. They welcome parents to volunteer in the classrooms, PTA, fundraisers etc. A very exclusive school which is low key, especially for Orange County. Students are diverse, respectful, well mannered and extremely bright. Known as a school for bright and gifted students.

This is a very challenging school and not for everyone. Quite a bit of parent involvment. Families and kids can be quite cliquish so it takes a confident child to succeed early on. Due to family relocation, my children were only there for 4 years. They did extremely well academically and provided and excellent base for early education. However, many children we know have struggled and required additional outside tutoring to barely keep up. Some eventually didn't continue. As with any school, do your homework and talk with current families for other opinions.

I have taught at this school grades five thru eight. I enjoyed teaching at Pegasus and being to restricted on how to teach. The parents were always willing to help out whenever needed. I will miss all the friends and students that I met while teaching at Pegasus.
