Joe A. Gonsalves Elementary School Reviews

Gonsalves Elementary is an awesome school from my experiance. I heard from one of my frined & I was confused to buy a home or not . Finally I made up my mind for the sake of school & bought it. Now I feel so relaxed by seeing my child improvement over the last 2 years.Apart from academics, cultural activities, extracurricular activities , the after school day care is very nice. Its like a homely feeling. Even though I am at home & want my child to be at home , she says she doesn't want to come home because she enjoys over there a lot. Overall I can say , the school is like a family for me.The parent teacher invlovement is superb. The principal participates actively in all the evernts.

I happen to really like our new principle. I feel she is very approachable and easy to talk to. She takes the time for that, And also wants to enforce the safety for our kids. If only the parents would do their part, and pay attention to the flyers that are sent home regarding crosswalks and parking. I for one support Mrs. Ross and I'm glad she is at Joe A Gonsalves.

Teachers are helpful, encouraging and very supportive. Booster club...Amazing...great job! Planned activities are above and beyond what I expected because of the effort the parents/teachers put into the school. The new principal this year still needs to learn 'the warmth' that emanated from the former principal, and needs to listen to parents and not insist on her way is the best. Otherwise, the current principal will lose a lot of her support from the parents and her excellent staff.

I cannot express how happy we are that our son got in this school. We transferred him from a private school about 3 weeks ago. We are very pleased with the school work and the way teachers and students have made it so easy for his transition. In addition, he always comes home happy and excited to do his homework. I commend the people who make this school very successful. The principal/teacher/parent involvement is very vital and everybody is doing their job really well.

Gonsalves Elem. is an excellent school. I've had 2 children go K-6 and cannot imagine that any other school could top the experiences we've enjoyed. evry teacher we've had was phenomenal, the principal is intelligent, supportive and warm and approachable. Academics are very strong. I do wish they had their music teacher on site with them more, and I would have liked if they'd started a language (spanish, french...)Parent involvement is tremendous. Students are completely prepared for California Standards tests. Safe, warm 'family' atmosphere. Can you beleive that the Principal seems to know almost every student and family name!

Excellent caring teachers. Supportive principal. Parent involvement high. Safe.

This school is wonderful for students that are high achievers. If your child has difficulties, he/she may fall through the cracks here. Most of the children qualify for Gate. In my opinion, tutoring and extra help for the challenged child is not a focus at this school.

An extremely good school. Did not know what to expect when my child started in ms. Dorsz class, but the results are awesome! Child just finished ms. Drunasky 1st. Grade class, and the end results are highly evident.. Getting ready for 2nd. Grade, and am sure that my child will continue to excel..... Joel

After having my daughter in a private school for pre-k thru second grade. I would say that Gonzalves has some wonderful attributes that I did not expect out of a public school. My only concern is that, as with all public schools, the children are constantly being pushed to grasp new concepts on a dialy basis. There is no way to go back over those concepts for the children who need to and to move the children ahead that don't. I guess this is a problem at the state level.

Our son currently is in kindergarten and I have found that my son is really learning and excelling in Gonsalves. An extremely good school with a very competitive educational program.

Both of my children went to Gonsalves from k-6, and the school prepared them to excel in all areas of academics in middle school. Thanks to dedicated teachers, committed parents, and outstanding leadership of the principal, this school is the number 1 in ABC district. My children are very proud that they went to this great school.
