East Whittier Middle School Reviews

I am very pleased with this school. I had my son in private school through 5th grade, and was skeptical about transferring him to private school. He continues to excel and I attribute it to the teachers and the guidance we provide @ home.

Over all great school. I give it 4 stars for all categories.

these students have improved on not only making friends but wisdom that that most teachers dont give enough of. The students test scores are amazing

Really great school the teachers are really good.

East Whittier is a great school. The teaching staff does a great job with the children. The principal is a great asset to the school.

I am a former student from East Whittier and it REALLY helped me a lot. I went to Ocean View for elementary and my grades there were average or below average. Once I got to East Whittier my grades went up a lot, all three trimesters of all three years I got a 4.0 GPA.

I really like this school. I have more freinds and better grades.

They have some preatty good teachers that get very involved with their students.

I have disablities and I went there and there disablity program is good as long as the parent gets to know the teachers that the kids have.

Your child can certainly be challenged here. The honors math program is challenging. My 6th grader scored in the 95% on the Star testing in algebra. I would like to see a honors english program and teachers requiring more reading. In 6th grade they were only required to read one book a month or every month and 1/2. My student came from Ocean View Elementary and was required to read more books there than at East Whittier Middle School. I had no problems with the school during my childs 6th grade year. I was happy with the school. The music program is outstanding! The math program is outstanding! We just need to work on the english program which is adequate but could be outstanding.

i am an eighth grader at EWMS and i think that it is great. it has great honors programs and an outstanding music teacher. i have learned so much from the music program. it helps you in so many things. i enjoyed all the trips we took especially our tour to san francisco.

With one child in GATE and another with LD The GATE program consists of nothing but honors courses. Technically, there are no honors classes for English and social studies, only math and science. The educational program is not outstanding. A lot of energy goes into meeting the needs of ESL kids. The music program is a highlight and important to the social life of the school.

Parent envolvement at this school is very high from what Ive seen. This community takes pride in its schools and it shows. The only 'negative' thing I have to say about this school is that the sixth graders are not pprovided with enough opportunities as far as art, music, and sports are concerned, which I think is true of most schools in la county. Our children need to be more well rounded, with more exposure to the arts.

Since moving to this area and having a child who attended a School of Excellence; my child went from a B,C average student to failing with lower C's and F's. Our suggestion is : 'Parents do your homework, when it comes to chosing a school for your child'. Two Concerned Parents
