Leapwood Avenue Elementary School Reviews

Leapwood Elementary is a very good school. They have a great staff, that put children's education first. My son has had the pleasure of being in Ms. Gilliam's class this year, which to say the least she is an awesome teacher. She really cares for the children in her class, and is very committed to ensuring they work to there full potential. I hope I have a great experience and teacher parent relationship next year when my son enters the third grade.

I am highly impressed with Leapwood. My son loves going to school, daily. The teachers, staff, and parents genuiunely care about the students. I feel like I am in a family setting. The school has a history of matriculating professional and community leaders. The children are well more than capable of excelling in high school, college and life! They get an A+. Leapwood is truely a hidden gem in Carson!!

We attended the 5th grade culmination ceremony at CSUDH this past June 2007 and it was a memorable event for our family. Leapwood is a good school and we feel that the students receive a quality education. There are many dedicated and hard-working teachers, and the principal is very hands-on with the students. There is also a handful of active parents who get involved in various school functions, however, that is not enough. The school needs more parents to get involved in their child's education. The teachers and administration cannot do the job alone. With that said, I hope that there will be more parent involvement next year. Leapwood's test scores are increasing every year--that's progress! Teachers can certainly focus more on their teaching and student achievement if they get more support from parents and guardians. Needless to say, Leapwood can be a better school with more parent support and involvement!

A teacher I met a few years ago recommended this school. Initially, my husband and I were concerned about the test scores and Great Schools rating. However, after meeting the administration and teachers, and previewing the curriculum, we were confident that Leapwood was the best choice for our kids. We are extremely pleased with the curriculum. The principal is great, and her passion for Leapwood and its students are evident. As a volunteer, I observe the principal locking the gates, greeting staff, children and parents (morning and afternoons), observing a classroom, or attending a PTA meeting (day and evenings). The teachers are dedicated and most either grew up in Carson or attended Leapwood as a child. My husband and I learned that test scores are great indicators, but it may not give you pure overall evaluation of the school. Keep up the good work Leapwood!

I'm very happy with Leapwood Elementary School. Often times, a school's test scores do not reflect the true essence of an academic program. The principal(Mrs. Hudley) and majority of the teachers (Mrs. Pollard, Mrs. Steward, Ms. Lincoln, Ms. Gatewood, and Ms. Mason- to name a few) really appear to care for the students and truly have the student's best interest at heart. The academic programs are innovative and geared for optimal learning. Initially, I enrolled my kids in a highly respected private school. Soon there afterwards, I met a few parents who advised me of how happy they were with Leapwood Elementary School's academic program. I gave Leapwood a chance and I'm very happy I did. Their program ranks right up there with many private school curriculums. Good luck, Cornel S.

I've been a Leapwood parent for over six years the past and I feel this school provides an very good learning environment. As my older son entered Pre-K, I noted the commitment the staff has toward learning and for the children. My sons have learned so much at Leapwood. As a parent, LAUSD is fortunate to have teachers as: Mrs. Pollard, Mrs. Lincoln, Mrs. McKay, Ms. DeAugustine,Ms. Cox, Ms. Gilliam, Mrs. Martin-- countless others. The admin staff, especially Mrs. Hudley, Ms. Mason, Mrs. Ursula Martin -- you're the best. When my husband and I joined the PTO, we noticed that there was little parent involvement but the few were very dedicated. So it seems that even for the last five years, it's usually the same group of parents who are involved. We need more parent involvement and support at Leapwood.

This is a great school. The teachers go above and beyond. The staff is excellent as well.

The teachers are what really keeps this school going. Ms. Lincoln is one of my favorite teachers at Leapwood. I've also had Mrs. Hollowell as a teacher (of my child) she's really good as well. Parent Involvement is below average. It seems to me that for
