San Pedro Senior High School Reviews

I have 3 children attending SPHS. To date I have had great communication with their teachers. I am an actively involved parent and I have enjoyed being part of the school's advisory committee. Currently we have a devoted Title 1 Coordinator who is dedicated to increasing Parent Involvement which makes being at the school an enjoyable experience. I encourage all parents to attend a CEAC, SSC or SBM meeting and see first hand how all stakeholder groups are working together. As we start this New Year I look forward to the continued support of the Administration and Staff.

As a SPHS Magnet School alumni, I have to say I found even the accelerated curriculum a joke. High school was all about being babysat. I only had one or two teachers that stand out in my mind as people who were dedicated and could relate to us as students, Mr. Saavedra being among them. As for parents complaining that the school 'lets' the students ditch, I would recommend giving your children a sounder moral foundation and stop blaming it on the school. Kids will ditch if they want to, regardless of which school they go to. Whether they can do that and still graduate is the real question. I speak from experience (and graduated with honors, no less.) I think San Pedro High probably ranks the same as most other high schools in America as far as educational quality- our antiquated educational system is in dire need of an overhaul.

I am a student who graduated from San Pedro high school, it is a great school. It has tremendous community support. The teachers are excellent. The amount of counselors at this school, I do agree aren't enough.I think this school has been greatly updated in recent years.I believe that it offers a great deal of extra curricular activities for all student needs. I'm sure there are problems such as truancy, but can anyone think of a high school that doesn't have that problem.Overall, I loved my experience there and as a mom I would recommend San Pedro high school to other parents.

I think that the teachers are stuck in a certain frame of mind and they think no one cares about the kids so they don't try to get parents involved. The environment is not conducive to learning.

Amazing faculty and staff that are always available and helpful. Three of my daughters attended and all three went on to college with the help of the high school curriculum. The music, dance and sports programs allow a well-rounded education.

San Pedro High School is one of the best schools in Los Angeles. For the most part, the students, faculty and staff have a mutual respect for each other and the students receive an excellent education. Parent involvement could be greater but this seems to be a problem with most high schools. All of my children will attend or attended San Pedro High School including my husband and myself.

My daughter also ditched and I wasn't notified for 30 days. I left messages with every teacher. I asked the counselor if I should come in for a meeting. She said, 'No, it's not necessary.' I also went and spoke with every teacher. This was two months ago. It is now 5 days before graduation. I went to see how she was doing; they let me know she isn't going to graduate. Again, 2 more months have passed and no notification from any one. Now, it's too late and my daughter is not graduating. This school absolutely does not care about these childrens' education. I am absoultely devastated.

I guess this review could be for any public high school in the LAUSD. The schools are definitely overcrowded and there isn't a balanced amount of students per teacher ratio. In addition, the counselors have too many students to keep track of.

Both of my children attended San Pedro High School which prepared them well for the University of California where they both attended.

My daughter went to SPHS for 2 1/2 months before I pulled her out. She ditched a few classes for 28
