Newcomb Elementary School Reviews

Newcomb is in desperate need of some administration changes starting with a new strong principal and a full-time vice principal. Some changes of teachers in the fifth grade also would turn Newcomb back into the top-ranking school that it once was. Let's hope the district is listening to the parent's voices!!

Newcomb rocks with some awesome teachers that really help you out when you are having trouble with a subject especially with math. I was having difficulty with math in sixth grade and the math teacher really went out of her way to help me, and I ended up getting an A' in my report card. The only grade at Newcomb my mom and I didn't like was fifth grade. That was my worst year. All the rest of the grades were cool. I've made some great friends at Newcomb and I am going to miss it when I graduate this year. Newcomb rocks!!!

I believe Newcomb Academy is a good school and your child can have a great and positive education there providing your child is one of the 'lucky' ones who gets into one of the 'popular' and positive teacher classrooms. Each Spring teacher requests are accepted at Newcomb for the following Fall which is wonderful, but then you have a few months of finger biting, hoping your child gets in to one of the few positive teacher classrooms. If not, it is not a great situation because unfortunately Newcomb does have some teachers who no longer seem to enjoy teaching at the elementary level, and your child can have a fairly negative experience if they end up in their classes. My daughter is in the upper Academy now which she is really enjoying. Fifth grade was the worst with too much homework and no communication from the teachers.

My daughter is a GATE student and I have been very pleased with all of her teachers so far. I am a very involved parent, have worked with the principal on numerous occasions and have not seen any basis for the criticism heaped by previous posters. She appears to be very involved and engaged. Maybe it's just individuals' perceptions? The parental involvement is fantastic and creates a private school atmosphere and a culture of involvement and learning.

Newcomb teachers are great. My children attended k-8 and were well prepared for the high academic programs in the district high schools. The current principal is awful and is effecting the quality of the school. Her hiring choice have been for the most part terrible. The district administration doesn't seem to care.

I have to agree with most of the reviewers for Newcomb Academy. The teachers are wonderful. I have found them to be very approachable and extremely enthusiastic. The substitute teachers are questionable, though. I feel like the principal is so removed from the school. She doesn't even seem like she is a part of it. I would like to see her become more encouraging with the students and a little less cold.

Our family is new to Newcomb Academy, but so far we love it! My daughter's kindergarten teacher answers questions promptly, provides a safe, fun learning environment and the kids adore her. The school has high academic standards, but also a lot of spirit! The extracurricular activities they provide - even for little ones, have really given my daughter a great enthusiasm for her school. I am very happy with the small size and have been able to get involved with many aspects of the school. I would highly recommend Newcomb Academy especially if you are the type of parent/family that really wants to be involved in your child's education.

Newcome is a wonderful school for gate students. The teachers are encouraging and insightful with information and educational tools. The support staff on playgrounds are the best. The administration (particularly the principal) is extremely poor. A lack of leadership and communication skills from Ms Flynn. Parental involvement (excellent PTA) has improved our school.

Great kids, great teachers, great parents...administration is not fabulous by a long shot. My kids had a tremendous amount of work in 5th grade, but the teachers are very good, and very concerned that they be prepared for middle and high school. Not nearly as much work at Newcomb in the middle school...one of my children heads to high school in the fall, so it will be interesting to see if he truly is well prepared. My guess is that Newcomb did right by him! New principal definitely needed, and consistency in t
