Twain Elementary School Reviews

MY husband and I just love this school!!! Our son attented his elementary years here all throughout and he is now in Middle School and was identified as GATE student. This school strongly empahasizes on Academic Excellence . They have an over all high Test ratings at all times. They prepare your child to be better students when they come out of elementary. It is a Distinguished Blue Ribbon Recipient and they stand for it every year and we as parents couldn't be more proud! Go, Twain!!!

Great K-3rd teachers--they cluster together the various levels of learners and give all appropriate work and assignments. The rigor just isn't there for 4th-5th grade teachers. The 4th and 5th grade teachers seem to use the same lesson plan for all children as through every students succeeds at the same rate and level. My son was always told to do his homework in the 4th grade every single day when he breezed through the classwork--the same thing is going on, now, in 5th grade. Again, the K-3rd grade teachers are wonderful, but the 4th-5th grade teachers, I'm sorry to say, are disappointing. -Frustrated Mom and Teacher

All three of our kids attend this school and we are very happy with it. They have an excellent staff and program for the students. It is truly a 'California Distinguished School' and a 'Blue Ribbon School.'

Academic Programs are strong. Heavy emphasis on testing. Some cutbacks in extra-curricular and in support staff expected in 2005. There seems to be a core group of very involved parents and a multitude of parents volunteering occasionally in the classrooms.

Parent participation is very high. Many moms walk their kids to school and you see alot of parents waiting with their kids in the courtyard for the bell to ring. Also, waiting list for kids to transfer from the surrounding areas is very long. Many don't make it in. I think this is one of the most beautiful schools in the area. It has such beautiful archictectural features with an old bell in the tower that they ring every Friday.

Both of my daughters have attended Twain from 1st grade (4th and 5th graders now.) The quality of teachers is above average at each grade level, in the gifted program and in the regular classrooms. The teachers set high achievement goals for the children but help the kids reach these goals. The teachers are enthusiastic and receptive to parents concerns. We are very pleased with this school and highly recommend it.

I think Mark Twain is a great school. Its simple and the kids have to work hard. This is good for the kids. They have after school care untill 4:10pm. Overall I'm very pleased with the school.

If a parent had to choose any elementary school in long beach, this should be the one. it is critical that students are taught early on how to learn well and mark twain truly does a wonderful job. with a caring staff, and a friendly family-like atmosphere, twain is a ideal school and a wonderful place.

My son graduated this year and is moving on to Bancroft. He attended Twaine from kindergarten. I am so pleased with the education and type of person my son has grown to be. I hope that Bancroft is as wonderful a school!

My child goes to this school, and has been there for 3 years. This is her last year, and I say that the staff, environment, and curriculum is the best I have seen in all schools.
